Biking Trail Options in Marin County

Enjoy Nature From Marin County’s Stunning Bike Trails

Get outside and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful views from one of Marin County’s incredible biking trails! Did you know that mountain biking was actually invented on the trails of Marin County’s Mt. Tamalpais? Since the 1970s, Bay Area residents have been hitting the rugged trails and taking in the sights. Not quite ready for rough terrain? Marin County offers plenty of low-key, smooth trails for younger or less-experienced bikers.

1. China Camp State Park (San Rafael)

Mountain bikers love cruising along this state park’s world-famous single-track trails. Get the whole family involved by tackling Shoreline Trail, a wider path that’s easier to navigate. All trails within the park are open to mountain bikers except for the Turtle Back Hill Nature Trail.

2. Indian Valley Open Space Preserve (Novato)

Bikers of all skill levels love the trails at Indian Valley. The 885-acre preserve falls in the shade of oak trees and California bay laurels, allowing visitors to feel at home in nature. Follow Waterfall Trail for some beautiful views! Ride along Indian Valley Fire Road, which is flat and well-maintained, making it perfect for bikers who are still learning.

3. Las Gallinas Wildlife Ponds (San Rafael)

For a scenic ride, check out the trails at Las Gallinas. Wide and flat gravel trails surround the ponds in a 2.1-mile loop, making it a perfect place to bike while observing local wildlife. Stop to enjoy a picnic on the grounds, and enjoy the wide variety of birds that call Las Gallinas home.

4. Stafford Lake Bike Park (Novato)

Proficient bikers will have a blast at Stafford Lake County Park’s amazing bike park! Explore the park’s 17 acres and get a great workout on the dual slalom course, perfect for more advanced riders. The park frequently holds events and competitions, and bikers can enjoy the perimeter trail at any skill level.

5. Samuel P. Taylor State Park (Lagunitas)

Located within Northern California’s famous redwood parks, the Cross-Marin trail is an incredible and scenic way to experience the area’s natural beauty. Ride through redwood groves and along the Lagunitas Creek! This is a great place to enjoy biking with the whole family.
